President Barack Obama served as headline speaker for the annual Alfalfa Dinner roast on Saturday in Washington D.C. and let loose with a few jokes at his Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel.

The White House released a few of the President’s zingers which took aim at Emanuel’s penchant for profanity. “It was actually Rahm’s idea to do the swearing-in ceremony again,” Obama said. “Of course, for Rahm, every day is a swearing-in ceremony, ” he joked.

The President also made light of his recent blackberry controversy saying, “In just the first few weeks, I’ve had to engage in some of the toughest diplomacy of my life. And that was just to keep my Blackberry.”

Alaskan Governor Sarah Palin was also in attendance but, since the black-tie affair traditionally bars reporters from attending, it is not known whether the President poked fun at the Caribou Barbie. We hope someone did.

President-elect Barack Obama has named former election rival Senator Hilary Clinton as secratary of state on Monday.

Bill Clinton was among the first to express his approval, “As an American, I am thankful. As her husband, I am deeply proud.”

“[Hillary] is the right person for the job of helping to restore America’s image abroad, end the war in Iraq, advance peace and increase our security, by building a future for our children with more partners and fewer adversaries,” the former President added.

Republican pundit Rush Limbaugh also praised Obama’s selection, calling it a “brilliant stroke.”

Obama has already appointed House of Representatives’ Rahm Emanuel as White House chief of staff and plans to keep Robert Gates in position as defense secretary.

“I assembled this team because I am a strong believer in strong personalities and strong opinions. I think that’s how the best decisions are made,” Obama says of his cabinet decisions.
