Tyra Banks Spins Off America’s Next Top Model’s Miss J and Jay Manuel

Just like Oprah Winfrey made hit shows from her talk show guests -Dr. Phil, Rachael Ray, and soon Dr. Oz, Tyra Banks is spinning her own TV gold with America’s Next Top Model judges Miss J. Alexander and Jay Manuel.

Miss Banks will executive-produce J and Jay in the new CW series tentatively titled Operation Fabulous which features the stylish duo traveling this great Velveeta-eating, Wal-mart shopping country and giving head-to-toe makeovers to five small town folks who will compete to take part in a larger competition. Tyra Banks, Designer Patrick Robinson And Stylist June Ambrose, Top US Weekly‘s Most Stylish List

While Blindie loves to report on Tyra Banks, goes ga ga over Gap’s head designer Patrick Robinson, and thinks June Ambrose was shutting it down with innovative, futuristic styling on music videos way before Rachel Zoe was a household name, we’re still not sure what to make of some of the other celebs on Us Weekly‘s 25 Most Stylish New Yorkers of ’08.

The list is a hodge-podge of actresses, designers and TV correspondents (Gayle King even made the list! We didn’t even know she was a New Yorker. We thought she lived in Chicago–next door to Oprah).

Even a few random folks who we’re quite sure are unknown to the average US audience made the list!

Hello? Deborah Marquardt and chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten?

Jean George Vongerichten

But the absolute head-scratcher has to be Aubrey O’Day of the Diddy girl group Danity Kane…that girl used to be the fresh-faced hot girl next door and has gone on to become the tranniest, most weaveable white girl on MTV!

Blindie EXCLUSIVE: Chanel Iman Gives Tyra and Italian Vogue Black Models Puzzle-Piece Necklaces

Returning a gift that Tyra Banks gave her, Blindie’s favorite model Chanel Iman gave all the models at Tuesday’s celebration of Italian Vogue‘s black issue puzzle-piece necklaces.

The necklaces, which are replicas of the ones Tyra gave Chanel last October on her show, are matching puzzle pieces that symbolize their shared struggle of opening doors in the fashion industry.

“I want you to wear this because we are just two puzzle pieces in this struggle for black models,” Tyra told Chanel last year. “So whenever you feel like, “Oh, God! I’m so tired…They didn’t accept me for this because I’m a black model.’ Just know that you’re just one piece toward us becoming a complete puzzle.”

Blindie thinks diversity in modeling is Tyra’s new crusade—just like her 2007 “So What?!” positive body image campaign.

Tyra Banks Celebrates Black Models & Italian Vogue Breakthrough On Talk Show

To celebrate Italian Vogue’s success, Tyra Banks is shooting a tribute episode of her namesake (Emmy-winning!) talk show Tuesday in New York, with Blindie’s favorite supermodel-in-training Chanel Iman, the world’s first black supermodel Beverly Johnson, Veronica Webb, Noemie Lenoir and many others.

The model-mogul, who came on the modeling scene after Naomi Campbell’s rise to fashion fame and became the first black model to appear on the iconic Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue, tranformed a Manhattan street into an asphalt runway.

“A lot of the times the fashion world doesn’t give a lot of attention to American Black girls from urban areas,” Banks, who has been an advocate for diversity in the fashion industry, told Ebony last year. “I don’t mean to pat my own back, but America’s Next Top Model pulled down the curtain to this world that people thought they couldn’t be a part of. Now every girl is like, ‘I want to be a model.’ I feel like the world is more accessible, but by no means is it less prestigious.”

The episode is scheduled to air in the beginning of Season 4 on September 11th.

New Study Reveals All African American Women Could Be Overweight By 2034

By 2034, all African American women are expected to be overweight or obese, according to a health study published in the research journal, Obesity.

Currently, 78 percent of black women are presently overweight or obese. Mexican American men come in a close second, with 90 percent expected to be overweight in 2034.

By 2030, about 86 percent of all Americans are expected to be overweight. Dr. Lan Liang, one of the researchers on the study, points out that “genetically and physiologically, it should be impossible” for all U.S. adults to become overweight, but adds “that is the direction we’re going.”

The findings are based on government survey data collected between 1970 and 2004 and the current trends in diet.

Tyra Models Herself After Michelle Obama

Supermodel mogul Tyra Banks poses as first lady hopeful Michelle Obama in a spread for Harper’s Bazaar.

Shot by fashion photographer Alexi Lubomirski, Banks and her “superfine male model” Roman provided “a little peek into the possible future if Barack Obama were to win the presidency.”

A behind-the-scenes video of the shoot features the faux first couple posing in the Oval Office and fist-bumping at a ticker tape celebration.

Banks wraps it all up with this priceless line: “Michelle and Barack Obama, y’all just might be going to the White House; I’m going to White Castle…”

An Open Letter to Tyra Banks & Cycle 12 of America’s Next Top Model

As The CW’s America’s Next Top Model gets ready to cast diamonds-in-the-rough for Cycle 12, Blindie has a few things for producers to keep in mind. Basically, we still think this guilty pleasure can be saved from itself–and from the claws of Tyra–but only if they get rid of a few of the show’s formulaic tendencies.

Here’s 10 Things Blindie Hates About You, ANTM:

1. Tyra, STOP the dramatics. From your random accents on the panel to your unnatural sadness when kicking contestants off. If we have to hear you say, “I have two beautiful girls standing before me, but I only have one photograph in my hand. That photo represents the girl who is still in the running toward becoming America’s Next Top Model….” I think we will have to cut your tongue out!

2. ENOUGH already with the “Smile with Your Eyes” bit. We know how to do it–you’ve been schooling these girls on smiling with their eyes for 11 cycles now!

3. No more pretty girls with disabilities! From Cycle 1’s Amanda (retinitis pigmentosa) to Cycle 2’s Mercedes (Lupus) to Cycle 10’s Heather (Aspberger’s, a form of autism), we get it: Pretty people have problems too.

4. Stop calling Nigel Barker a “noted fashion photographer!

5. No more plus-sized models. Just develop a spinoff. We are tired of seeing Size 8s dubbed plus-sized because they are in a house full of Size 0s…
