Slumdog Millionaire stars Dev Patel and Freida Pinto are a couple!
Days after being photographed in full-PDA mode with Pinto in Israel, Patel’s mother confirms that her son, 19, is dating his 24-year-old costar to the Daily Mirror.
“Yes, we knew he was flying to Israel to see her,” she said of her son visiting his girlfriend near the set of her film Miral in Jerusalem.
“Life can’t get any better for him,” she added. “Freida is really beautiful, and I am really happy for them.”
The father of Slumdog Millionaire child star Rubina Ali (who played a young Latika in the Oscar-winning film) reportedly tried selling his 9-year-old daughter for roughly $300,000, but he’s denying such reports to People.com.
Rafiq Quresh says the report is a “lie made up by foreign journalists playing games with me.”
According to News of the World, Rubina’s pop offered the shocking deal to an undercover fake sheik this week, explaining, “I have to consider what’s best for me, my family and Rubina’s future.”
Blaming the filmmakers, he reportedly said, “We’ve got nothing out of this film,” while Rubina’s uncle told the newspaper, “The child is special now. This is NOT an ordinary child. This is an Oscar child!”
In the issue, the magazine chronicles how the small film from India, helmed by a Brit (Danny Boyle) became an Oscar darling.
“Working on the film has sparked a confidence in me, and a passion for acting,” Patel says. “I feel I can hold my head up high now. I feel like I matured five years in the space of five months. I’m 18 and I was at the Oscars yesterday!”
While Pinto, who can next be seen under the direction of Woody Allen, says of her journey, “Now I think that the fruit of the struggle ends up being the sweetest taste possible. I mean, this is strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, apples, bananas–the sweetest fruits in the world put together. It changed my life!”
Now that those adorable kids from Slumdog Millionaire have gotten a chance to attend the Academy Awards and even Disneyland, it’s time they start thinking about their next career move -after all they’re not the ones who get to take home those eight Oscars!
Blindie has five suggestions for Hollywood’s new “it kids” -Tanay Hermant Chheda, Tanvi Ganesh Lonkar, Ashutosh Lobo Gajiwalan, Rubiana Ali, Azharuddin Mohammed Ismail Sheik and Ayush Mahesh Khedekar -and it doesn’t include returning to the slums of India:
- Form a band. They could be the Indian version of the Naked Brothers Band or a Desi Jackson Five -plus one!
- Star in their own Nickelodeon sitcom. Come on, six little Indian kids speaking broken English is sure to get some laughs. Throw in Ryan Seacrest as their wise-cracking adoptive dad and now you’re talking Emmy!
- Star in a big budget Hollywood film. Call up Robert Rodriguez, we’ve found the next Spy Kids! And they could probably do their own stunts.
- Start their own fashion line. Considering most of America’s retail clothing is manufactured overseas, most likely with Slumdog-like child labor, the kids mind as well be in charge of their own label.
- Work at Disneyland. We heard the kids had a blast at Mickey’s hometown and since they did so well entertaining on the streets of Mumbai, so they’re sure to be a crowd pleaser in the It’s a Small World ride.

While the project has yet to be titled, Pinto joins an impressive cast, which includes Naomi Watts, Josh Brolin and Anthony Hopkins. She also becomes the latest Allen screen muse, which includes Diane Keaton and Scarlett Johansson.
It was only in November that the Mumbai-based model-actress signed with CAA and began mulling projects, according to Variety.
Blindie’s hoping Woody can work his magic and turn Pinto into an Oscar nominee, just like he did for Penelope Cruz who won a Best Supporting Actress Oscar for her role in his flick Vicky Cristina Barcelona!
Pussycat Dolls’ Nicole Scherzinger has officially upgraded Slumdog Millionaire‘s theme song “Jai Ho” from just another Bollywood dance tune to an award-winning Hollywood track.
Scherzinger teamed up with producer Polow Da Don to remix A.R. Rahman’s “Jai Ho,” which translates to “let there be victory,” to create a sexy dance song that is fast becoming an infectious anthem much like “Beyonce‘s Single Ladies.”
Too bad director Danny Boyle accidentally left choreographer Longines Fernandes, who created the song’s dance sequence for the film’s finale, off of the end credits!
