Lewis Hamilton: First Black And Youngest Formula One World Champion

Lewis Hamilton finished a nail-biting race on Sunday in the Brazil Grand Prix at Interlagos, taking fifth place to claim the driver’s title. He became the first black and youngest Formula One champion in the history of the sport and the first British champion since Damon Hill won in 1996.

Hamilton has been the target of hateful and racist attacks by racing fans in Spain who earlier this year dressed in blackface during a race and most recently with a website containing obscene posts referring to Hamilton’s color and reads “Hamilton cannot finish the race..we have to stop him however we can,” inviting users to burst his tires.

The 23 year-old driver needs to win just two more Formula One championships to win the $8 million rare McLaren F1 road car that was promised to him by McLaren team boss Ron Dennis last year.

Hamilton Races To Victory

Lewis Hamilton won the British Grand Prix, putting himself back on track to win the championship after failing to nab points in two previous races.

The 23 year-old’s skillful driving and his team’s quick decision-making were put to the test during a wet and windy race that spun other drivers off the track.

“It is by far the best victory I’ve ever had,” the Formula One race car driver told reporters after his victory.

This is the seventh win of Hamilton’s career and his first British Grand Prix win.

In October 2007, he announced plans to relocate from England to Switzerland for more privacy, but the almost 95% tax break he would receive in the neutral country sounds like a bigger incentive.

The U.K.’s Telegraph reports Hamilton is in the midst of brokering a luxury hotel deal in his family’s hometown of Grenada, investing millions in an existing hotel with plans to buy up surrounding government-owned land.

Did we mention he also has lucrative endorsement deals with Reebok and Tag Heuer?
