Color on the Cover: Did Essence Copy Glamour Magazine’s Annual Age Issue Cover Concept?

They say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, but outright copying in the media industry can smell of desperation!

For its April issue, the voice of Black women in America, Essence magazine, has (from the looks of it) stolen the annual age issue concept from Glamour—even completely translating their three-actresses-of-varying-ages cover concept.

For their age issue, Essence recruited 27-year-old tennis star Serena Williams, 53-year-old supermodel Iman and Oscar nominee Taraji P. Henson. See past examples of original Glamour covers from 2007 and 2008 below.

ObamaNation: New York Post Likens President Obama to Chimpanzee in Cartoon

Politically-incorrect new ragThe New York Post is adamantly standing behind a cartoon that compares President Barack Obama to the violent chimpanzee that was shot dead by police after mauling a woman on Tuesday.

The cartoon, which was featured in Wednesday’s paper by Sean Delonas, shows two officers standing over the a dead chimp with bullet holes in his body. One of the officers says, “They’ll have to find someone else to write the next stimulus bill.”

Being that African Americans have long been ridiculed and compared to monkeys, Blindie finds the cartoon completely insensitive.

ObamaNation: Indonesian Photographer Ilham Anas Is Newest Obama Impersonator

Move over AlphaCat and Fred Armisen, there’s a new Obama impersonator in town and not only is he a dead ringer for the President-elect but he also coincidentally hails from Indonesia, the same place President-elect Barack Obama spent part of his childhood when his mother remarried.

Photographer Ilham Anas and has been posing as an Obama look-alike ever since photos of him suited up like the ex-Illinois Senator gained popularity on the internet.

“The pictures spread very quickly on the Internet. It was phenomenal. Then TV stations and an advertising agency got in touch with me,” Anas told Reuters.

And if Anas gets a chance to meet with the real Barack Obama he plans to discuss the Israeli-Palestine conflict, but for now he’s fielding TV jobs like this Filipino pharmaceutical commercial.

ObamaNation: Barack Fist-Bumps Spider-Man In Marvel Comic

Marvel is giving Barack Obama the highest honor in geek land -a cameo in a Spider-Man comic. And not just the “walk-on roles” usually given to most presidents, but as an integral part of the storyline.

In the comic, Peter Parker attends the inauguration and decides “the future president’s gonna need Spider-Man.” When Parker is faced with an Obama imposter he uses basketball to determine the real one and even gets to fist-bump with the President-elect.

Obama is featured on the cover of the bonus issue of Amazing Spider-Man #583 which will be available on January 14.
