Chris Brown sat down for his first interview which aired Wednesday on CNN with his mother and attorney on Larry King Live, where he refuses to detail what led to his beating Rihanna, but says he’s “disappointed” in himself.

“I’m in shock, because, first of all, that’s not who I am as a person, and that’s not who I promise I want to be,” the 20-year-old singer, who was sentenced to five years probation and six months of community labor, said.

“I just don’t know what to think. I’m just like, wow,” Brown said. “It’s crazy to me.”

Last week, Henry Louis Gates Jr., the director of Harvard University’s W.E.B. DuBois Institute for African and African American Research, was arrested by Cambridge police officers investigating a reported break-in. But the house he was accused of breaking into was his own.

Today, New Yorker editor David Remnick has published an editorial on the arrest, calling foul play, echoing Gates’ sentiments that no matter how accomplished, “This is what happens to black men in America.”

“Gates was arrested for being black while at home,” Remnick writes.

The Washington Post also has an exclusive with Gates, where he says, “I studied the history of racism. I know every incident in the history of racism from slavery to Jim Crow segregation. I haven’t even come close to being arrested. I would have said it was impossible.”

If Rihanna takes the stand at ex-boyfriend Chris Brown‘s preliminary hearing Monday, it will be the singer’s first time publicly talking about what happened the night her boyfriend allegedly attacked her.

Various reports claim she instigated their quarrel by hitting him after a woman he was reportedly sleeping with text messaged him the night before the Grammys.

Whether or not she instigated the fight has little bearing on Brown’s physical retaliation–which has yet to be detailed from Rihanna’s perspective. The 20-year-old singer has pleaded not guilty in connection with assault on his ex.

UPDATE: Chris Brown accepts a plea bargain, ordering him to 180 days probation in Virginia; 5 years probation for felony assault; and completion of a domestic violence counseling program, according to CNN.

andre3000-arrested

One of our fave style and music icons Andre 3000 of Outkast was charged with driving 109 mph in a 65 mph zone in suburban Atlanta early Saturday morning, according to the AP.

The 33-year-old actor-designer-musician posted a $1,200 property bond pending a court date April 29, and said he was going so fast because he missed an exit and had to turn around.

We’re wondering if he was in a rush because of the “Green Light” with John Legend (“I’m ready to go right now….I’m ready to go right now”)….We know, bad pun!

After TMZ revealed that photos of a beaten and bruised Rihanna circulating on the web were fake, the site posted an exclusive photo of Rihanna reportedly taken after the alleged beating by Chris Brown.

In late 2007 Chris Brown appeared on the Tyra Banks Show and in a foreshadowing of his recent arrest for domestic felony charges revealed he had witnessed domestic violence as a child.

“Some people, their families go through domestic violence and stuff like that. I don’t want to mention the person’s name but there was somebody who hurt my mom. Me having to deal with that from the age of seven all the way through to 13, me seeing that and being visually abused by it – it affected me,” Brown said.

He also claimed to have been so affected by his mother’s abuse that he wanted to make sure he didn’t “put a woman through the same thing that person put my mom through.”

Brown tried to explain the reason his mother stayed in the situation saying, “I guess when a woman’s in love, she don’t look at it right.”

As previously reported, Chris Brown and Rihanna canceled their appearances at this year’s Grammy Awards after being involved in a domestic violence battle with one another.

While both stars have yet to go public with their legal drama, photos have surfaced on the web, showing the two together in Brown’s rented Lamborghini minutes before the incident was reported to LAPD.

But a source close to the couple has spoken out, identifying Rihanna as the victim (Brown surrendered to LAPD on Sunday and was released on $50K bail).

“Chris knocked her around,” the source tells People. “Black eye, blood, bruises. She had to be treated by a doctor.”

While Rihanna is cooperating with police in their investigation, the source says Rihanna is willing to forgive Brown (who is described as “low-key, easy-going and mild-mannered” by a former teacher).

“I would be so sad if she went back to him,” the source adds.
