A Very Pregnant M.I.A. Swaggers Onstage At The Grammys

Maya Arulpragasam did not live up to her moniker and go M.I.A. from the Grammys, in fact the Sri Lankan singer walked the red carpet in a colorful ruffled dress with her fiance Benjamin Brewer and stormed the stage in a black and white revealing outfit with Kanye West, T.I., Jay-Z and Lil’ Wayne to sing her hit song “Swagga Like Us.”

The singer had warned fans that she might not show up to the Grammys because her baby was due on the same day.

Kanye West Blogs About Recent Arrest: ‘Who’s Winning: Me Or The Media?’

The latest round in the battle between “The College Dropout” and the press took place in Newcastle, England and has made headlines on both sides of the Atlantic, prompting Kanye West to address his apparent victimization by the press on his blog.

According to freelance photographer Terry Blackburn, Kanye was leaving the bar with four women in the early morning hours on Friday when, “just as soon as I put my camera up to my face, that was it – he just pushed it in my face,” Blackburn told the BBC.

But hours after his arrest, Kanye promptly posted his side of the story on his blog: “I didn’t assault him, merely putting my hand up to cover his lens.”

Whatever happened, Blackburn was left with a cut nose and his complaint was enough for the Newcastle police to show up a few hours later at West’s hotel. “The cops were very cordial but told me that they had to arrest me because a complaint had been filed” Kanye blogs. “They spoke about how this was obviously a publicity stunt from the photographer but they still had to go through the motions.”

Kanye points out he doesn’t have a problem with all photographers only the paparazzi, “The paparazzi give real photographers a bad name. Let’s not forget the Paps killed Princess Diana,” he says in a blog entry. West says this under the heading “Who’s winning: Me or the Media?,” making it pretty obvious he views the media and not just the paparazzi as his enemy. Considering the sensationalized headlines in the press that have been touting the incident as a practical gang bang, Kanye might be justified in his martyrdom.

Kanye West has been in the UK for just over a week, selling out arenas with his “Glow in the Dark” tour, supported by Santogold. The tour ends in Manchester, this Monday.

BeKANYE Ads On Subway Are Actually Absolut Endorsements

While getting to work this morning, Blindie was bombarded by an ad on the subway. It was a hair-club-for-men type poster that featured a BEFORE shot of a balding, white middle-age man and an AFTER shot of Kanye West proclaiming: “Be someone else! Be KANYE!”

The cheestatic ads also featured a woman with a fizzy drink proclaiming, “Show me your Kanye!” According to the ad, two “fast-acting tablets” (with the initials “KW” etched on the surface) “can transform anyone into Kanye West.”

After jottiing down the website, Blindie rushed to see what this was actually promoting. We had the suspicion that the slogan, “Now any time can be Kanye time in an ABSOLUT world,” would direct us to alcohol. And it did.

Dubbed Campaign BeKanye, the ads are a viral sensation for Absolut vodka. “We offer our artists a lot of creative leeway,” Ian Crystal, brand director at Absolut, New York, said of the campaign which launch in mid-July. “Kanye’s a natural actor. He’s really fun. He’s got a good sense of humor.”
