Martial Arts action hero Jackie Chan has been cast in the Columbia Pictures remake of the ’80s classic, Karate Kid, as the “wax on, wax off” mentor Mr. Miyagi. Will Smith’s son Jaden has already been cast in the lead role made famous by Ralph Macchio.

Kid is slated to begin filming this year in Beijing with director Harald Zwart (Agent Cody Banks) at the helm.

Will Smith and his company Overbrook entertainment will produce along with Jerry Weintraub, who produced the original film.

Karate Kid might prove to be a smart choice for Chan considering that the late Pat Morita nabbed an Oscar nom for his portrayal of the wise Mr. Miyagi.

First Ralph Macchio, then Hilary Swank, now Will Smith’s son Jaden Smith, 10, will star in a remake of Columbia Pictures 1984 martial arts classic Karate Kid that begins shooting next year, Variety reports.

Blindie is just ecstatic over this casting choice, which we’re sure will give the young actor (who made his feature debut The Pursuit of Happyness) a vehicle to the kiddie A-List.
