First LOOK: Fashion Designers Call Michelle Obama ‘Our Shining Hope’ in New Style Book

First Lady Michelle Obama has caused an uproar with her fashion sense–even her choice of sleeveless dresses ruled headlines last week.

And now the first lady’s trademark, contemporary, all-American style is being spun into a book–like a love letter to the style maven from the fashionistas who have (and hope!) to dress her.

“Our shining hope for the future!” says designer Isaac Mizrahi in the Michelle Obama style guide (due out May 5). But Glamour has a few pages from Michelle Style: Celebrating the First Lady of Fashion, which features sketches, interviews and style tips from fashion heavy-hitters like Carolina Herrera, Catherine Malandrino, Tommy Hilfiger, Behnaz Sarafpour, Isabel Toledo, and Jason Wu.

“Michelle Obama is a true independent,” explains Nicole Miller. “She isn’t locked into wearing couture or super expensive clothes.
