Ga Ga: Miami’s Awesome New Republic

Just when we thought indie bands had to pay their dues on the gritty streets of the New York music scene, Awesome New Republic emerges from the sunny shores of Miami with a mix of modern rock, synth pop and acoustic sounds that totally makes us believe South Beach is more than just a tanning destination.

With a sound reminscent of Franz Ferdinand and The Killers, ANR’s duo Michael John ‘MJ’ Hancock and Brian ‘B-Rob’ Robertson claim to take inspiration from the Ramones and profess to channeling “Prince’s performance at the Superbowl” by playing “only the key moments of all of [their} songs” during performances.

“Rational Geographic” is the band’s new 3-album collection and “Volume I” is slated for release on March 3 on the Honor Roll label.

ANR performs on Wednesday at Miami’s FYC (Finding Your Cure) party at Provocateur nightclub and is scheduled to appear this spring at the Langerado Music Festival, SXSW, and Winter Music Conference.
