New York Gov. Paterson Slams Saturday Night Live Parody Skit

New York Governor David Paterson spoke out against the Saturday Night Live skit that mocked his blindness.

“I can take a joke,” Paterson told the Daily News on Sunday. “But only 37% of disabled people are working, and I’m afraid that that kind of third-grade humor certainly adds to this atmosphere.”

Saturday Night Live regular Fred Armisen impersonated the blind governor in a skit that not only poked fun at his handicap but also his past drug use, and portrayed him as a disoriented politician “caught totally off guard and…comically unprepared to take office.”

The National Federation of the Blind also spoke out against the SNL skit. “The biggest problem faced by blind people is not blindness itself, but the stereotypes held by the general public,” spokesman Chris Danielsen said. “The idea that blind people are incapable of the simplest tasks and are perpetually disoriented and befuddled is absolutely wrong.”

VIDEO VIRUS: Iraqi Journalist Throws Shoes At President Bush

President George Bush came under attack during his surprise visit to Baghdad on Sunday.

The President was visiting the war torn Iraqi capital for the last time during his term in office to celebrate a new security agreement between the U.S. and Iraq which takes effect on Jan. 1, and includes a commitment to withdraw all American forces by the end of 2011.

Bush narrowly missed two shoes thrown at his head by Iraqi television journalist Muntadar al-Zeidi during a press conference.

Zeidi interrupted the conference by standing up and shouting in Arabic, “this is a goodbye kiss from the Iraqi people, dog,” and hurled his shoe at President Bush. Zeidi then threw his other shoe and added, “this is from the widows and orphans and all those killed in Iraq.”
