Senator Barack Obama Makes History as 44th President of the United States

Barack Obama has been elected the 44th President of the United States, making him the first African-American elected to the office in our nation’s history.

Obama made his debut on the national stage only four years ago as the keynote speaker at the Democratic National Convention and went on to become a U.S. senator for Illinois. Energizing the Democratic party and a new generation of voters, Obama (a political rock star himself) has nabbed the support of celebs like Oprah and political heavyweights like Edward Kennedy and former Secretary of State Colin Powell.

While his grandmother Madelyn Dunham’s recent death and his breaking off from his pastor Jeremiah Wright have been huge personal blows for the 47-year-old politician, Obama will have the opportunity to share this momentous occasion with his wife Michelle and daughters Malia and Sasha.
