Color on the Cover: Chanel Iman Appears on Time Magazine’s Style & Design Issue

Blindie’s assuming that this Italian Vogue thing is really catching on, as model Chanel Iman is featured on Time Magazine‘s Style & Design Issue.

In the issue, the magazine explores the recent trend of using black models, but argues that the industry “has often cycled through ethnicities,” noting its use of black models in the 70s, Brazilians in the 90s, and Russians & East Europeans most recently.

“White faces, however, have always been in vogue—not surprising, given that most of the decision makers in the industry are white,” the magazine observes.

Where In The World Is Michael Jackson?: At His Childhood Home in Gary, Indiana

Michael Jackson and his three children, Paris, Prince, and Prince Michael II, stopped over in The Windy City before heading to his hometown of Gary, Indiana and touring his childhood neighborhood, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.

Earlier this summer the town’s mayor Rudy Clay presented Jackson’s papa Joe with a key to the city and unveiled a new street sign in honor of the famous clan. He even revealed proposed plans for a Jackson Museum and Cultural Center.

Blindie hopes that when the time comes MJ won’t skip out on the induction of his family’s museum the way he skipped out on the family reunion on September 4th at the BMI Urban Awards.

FASHION WEEK: Blindie Tracks Down Jourdan Dunn’s Latest Runway Looks

London native Jourdan Dunn (who appears on the latest cover of i-D Magazine) has many modeling accomplishments under her slim belt, including appearing on one of four Italian Vogue covers, being the first black model to walk the Prada runway in ten years, and closing the spring Rodarte show in New York on Tuesday.

Of her signature runway walk that rivals her mentor Naomi Campbell’s, the 19-year-old fashion star told Teen Vogue, “I practice a lot. My mum got me these hooker shoes and I walk around the house in them all day. I can walk in anything after those!”

Obama and McCain Make Joint Appearance To Honor 9/11 Victims

Senators Barack Obama and John McCain made a special joint appearance in New York to commemorate the seventh anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks on the United States.

The two presidential candidates put their political differences aside, shook hands and walked together into the pit where the Twin Towers fell. They also talked with family members of the victims and placed roses in a reflecting pool in memoriam.

This is the second presidential campaign since 9/11 and the first year that both Democratic and Republican candidates have appeared at Ground Zero on the anniversary.

Almost 3,000 people perished in New York, at the Pentagon and in Pennsylvania on this day seven years ago.

Model-Turned-Actress Joy Bryant Opens Up About Dropping Out of Yale For Fashion

Rising starlet Joy Bryant recently opened up about ditching the Ivy Leagues for the fashion world.

“I dropped out of Yale at the end of my sophomore year to model,” Bryant, 31, tells the Huffington Post. “I gave myself a year to make it happen.”

Shortly after leaving college, she was booked for Seventeen magazine’s back to school issue. “They seemed to dig my Ivy League credentials,” she reflects. “Others seemed shocked that I wasn’t an idiot.”

The fashionista, who has been ‘shutting it down’ on Bravo‘s The Rachel Zoe Project, also dishes on her unceremonious meeting with a ‘VERY famous designer’:

I was on line for at least an hour or so, which SUCKS but that’s what you got to do, so you do it. I finally get to the room, where the VERY famous designer is sitting at a long table with a few associates. I say hello, hand my portfolio over, and proceed to “walk” (please reference “Top Model”). I do so and then the VERY famous designer says to me, with a smile of course, “Joy, you are soooo beautiful, but I’m not using black girls this season.” (Insert sound of record scratching here). Yeah, he actually said that to my ‘beautiful’ face. He’s lucky he didn’t get a black eye.
