Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater Marks 50 Years With Performances & Doll

This year marks the 50th anniversary of the New York-based dance company, Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, and it’s celebrating with free performances throughout New York, according to the Washington Post‘s Robin Givhan.

The black modern dance company is also celebrating with tours around the world and a Barbie doll inspired by a dancer from “Revelations”–the signature work of the group, choreographed by Ailey in 1960.

“So much of ‘Revelations’ is about the ritual of processionals and the idea of moving forward toward some goal in a mindful manner,” Givhan writes. “It speaks to the idea of marching toward grace..It is as allegorical as a contemporary Kara Walker mural, but without the accompanying acrimony. It is personal without being political, powerful but not strident. ‘Revelations’ is sacred, but not sanctimonious.”

Ga Ga: Blindie’s Next It Girl, AnnaLynne McCord of 90210 Spinoff

While watching previews for The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2 on Wednesday (yes, opening night!), Blindie saw the trailer for The Haunting of Molly Hartley. And although the always-yummy Chace Crawford immediately caught our attention, it was his costar AnnaLynne McCord that nabbed out affections.

The curly-haired beauty with the prominent pout initially jumped on Blindie’s radar during her 10-episode stint on season 5 of Nip/Tuck, where she raised hell and stole the show as Portia de Rossi’s bad ass daughter!

McCord, 21, is also debuting in the show that we’re sure will make her a household name: 2008’s 90210 (premieres Sept. 2). In the headline-grabbing CW remake, the Georgia native will play rich popular girl Naomi Clark, who New York magazine says is the “new Kelly Taylor.”

Of her character, McCord says, “How do I put this nicely, she’s the bitch!” Yes! Blindie predicts she’ll be the new Shannen Doherty, stealing all scenes, causing drama and leaving prematurely to become a breakout star!
