ObamaNation: Barack on Patriotism in TIME

In its current issue, TIME magazine explores the meaning of patriotism (or love of country) for all Americans.

While both presidential candidates get their own platform in the magazine to share their views, it is Barack Obama’s final words on the topic in his essay (“A Faith in Simple Dreams”) that was a complete tearjerker:

“As a young man of mixed race, without a firm anchor in any community, without even a father’s steadying hand, this essential American ideal — that our destinies are not written before we are born — has defined my life. And it is the source of my profound love for this country: because with a mother from Kansas and a father from Kenya, I know that stories like mine could only happen in America.”

Activists Claim Racists Fund Black Abortions

Activists believe Planned Parenthood allows racist donors to designate their monetary donations to fund black abortions, according to U.S. News & World Reports.

Led by the niece of Martin Luther King Jr., a group of black pastors, are demanding that candidates refuse donations from Planned Parenthood, which has reportedly outlined a $10 million campaign to fund candidates who support abortion.

While the activists say they have evidence in videos that show black babies are being targeted, Planned Parenthood says they do “not tolerate racism of any kind.”

ObamaNation: Inside Those Ears

Barack_Rolling Stone Cover

Appearing on the cover of Rolling Stone, Barack Obama talks about (what else?) the soundtrack of his political life!

Proclaiming Stevie Wonder as his “musical hero,” he tells the magazine that “Maggie’s Farm” (1975) by Bob Dylan is “one of my favorites during the political season. It speaks to me as I listen to some of the political rhetoric.”

Obama, who has been endorsed by Dylan, gushed, “I’ve got to say, having both Dylan and Bruce Springsteen say kind words about you is pretty remarkable. Those guys are icons.”

Here’s a snippet of what goes through Obama’s endearing ears via Bob Dylan:

I got a head full of ideas
That are drivin’ me insane…

No, I ain’t gonna work on Maggie’s farm no more.
Well, I try my best
To be just like I am,
But everybody wants you
To be just like them.
