Stephen King Says Twilight Author Stephenie Meyer ‘Can’t Write Worth a Darn!’

King of Sci-Fi Stephen King has taken a bite out of Twilight author Stephenie Meyer’s skills as a writer and her vampire series.

Comparing Meyer to Harry Potter writer J.K. Rowling, King tells USA Today, “Both Rowling and Meyer, they’re speaking directly to young people. … The real difference is that Jo Rowling is a terrific writer and Stephenie Meyer can’t write worth a darn. She’s not very good.”

While he does blast Meyer’s lack of talent, he does say bad writers, if they have a good story, can still be “very, very successful.”

“It’s very clear that she’s writing to a whole generation of girls and opening up kind of a safe joining of love and sex in those books,” King says. “It’s exciting and it’s thrilling and it’s not particularly threatening because they’re not overtly sexual. A lot of the physical side of it is conveyed in things like the vampire will touch her forearm or run a hand over skin, and she just flushes all hot and cold. And for girls, that’s a shorthand for all the feelings that they’re not ready to deal with yet.”

New Moon News: Taylor Lautner Will Play Jacob Black in Twilight Sequel

Author Stephenie Meyer and Summit Entertainment have announced that Taylor Lautner will be joining Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart as Jacob Black in New Moon!!!

“My experience on Twilight was wonderful and I am looking forward to continuing on with the team for New Moon,” Lautner said in the official statement. “I have been working hard preparing for the physicality that this role will require and can’t wait to get started with the filming of New Moon.”

I’m very happy to announce that Taylor Lautner will be playing Jacob Black in New Moon and that he’s doing so with the enthusiastic support of Summit Entertainment, the producers, and Stephenie Meyer.

The characters in Stephenie’s books go through extraordinary changes of circumstance and also appearance; so it is not surprising that there has been speculation about whether the same actor would portray a character who changes in so many surprising ways throughout the series. But it was my first instinct that Taylor was, is, and should be Jacob, and that the books would be best served by the actor who is emotionally right for the part. I think that fans of Twilight the book and the movie will be surprised by the Jacob Black that Taylor will bring to the screen in New Moon; and I’m looking forward to working with him and the rest of the cast in realizing the film.

Rosario Dawson on Twilight Books: ‘It’s Ridiculous, It’s Like Crack Cocaine’

Blindie can remember when we first got hooked on the Twilight saga, dedicating entire days to reading the four books by author Stephenie Meyer. Now it seems there’s another victim to the vampire series: Rosario Dawson!

“I just read the first book, it’s ridiculous, it’s like crack cocaine. I read it for 10 hours straight until I finished it,” Dawson, told People magazine at the Seven Pounds premiere Monday.

“My dad is going to hate me, because I spend zero time with him, reading these books,” the 29-year-old beauty added. “It’s like Judy Blume and Anne Rice had a child and made this book. I’m so attracted.”

Chris Weitz Will ‘Devote’ Himself to Directing the ‘Most Faithful Version’ of New Moon

It’s official: filmmaker Chris Weitz will take over where Twilight director Catherine Hardwicke left off by directing the sequel, New Moon.

In a letter to fans, the director says, “In the past few days I have been involved in a whirlwind romance with Stephenie Meyers’ extraordinary books. And I am very grateful to have received her permission to protect New Moon in its translation from the page to the screen.”

Weitz also attempts to assuage skeptics who believe his male-oriented work as director of American Pie and About a Boy hasn’t prepared him for the female-centric world of Twilight.

“I can say that I will devote myself to making the very best and most faithful version of New Moon that can be brought to the screen,” he writes. “To those who doubt that as a male director I can capture Bella’s experience, I can only say that emotion is universal.”

And Meyer also gives her blessing, “I’ve had the chance to talk to Chris, and I can tell you that he is excited by the story and eager to keep the movie as close to the book as possible…I’m really looking forward to seeing his vision for New Moon.”
