African American And French Chloe Mortaud Wins Miss France Pageant

Chloe Mortaud won the Miss France pageant at the Puy du Fou theme park in Vendée, France on Saturday. The 19 year-old international business student represented the region of Albigeois-Midi-Pyrénées located in the southwest of France. Born in the northern French town of Lisieux, Mortaud boasts an African American mother from Mississippi and tells the Associated Press she wants to "incarnate ... today's French diversity" and show that "fear of the other is unfounded."

Miss USA Crystle Stewart of Texas repeats a blunder that Miss USA 2007 Rachel Smith encountered at last year's Miss Universe Pageant: she falls on her behind! Is it a coincidence that both Stewart and Smith are of African-American ancestry? Or is it an epidemic, slipping and falling on your derriere on the world's stage?
