Petition To Fox: Stop The Racist Smears

Fox News has consistently rubbed not only Barack Obama supporters the wrong way, but African Americans in general with irresponsible reporting that resembles a racial smear campaign. From on-air graphics calling Michelle Obama, "Obama's baby mama," and confusing Barack with "Osama" then joking the pair should be assassinated, to calling Barack and Michelle's fist bump a 'terrorist fist jab,' Fox News is proving they are far from being "fair and balanced." Two political organizations dedicated to representing the voice of the people, ColorOfChange.org and Moveon.org are calling on Fox News to stop the racial smears with a petition signed by over a half a million people. Rap artist Nas is expected to deliver the petition to Fox today.

Condolezza: U.S. Has Come A Long Way

Condoleezza Rice has expressed approval of Barack Obama's presidential candidacy, saying it's a remarkable accomplishment that shows the U.S. has come a long way. The Secretary of State, who is only the second black person, after Colin Powell, to achieve such a high position in the American government, said in a TV interview over the weekend that she knows which candidate she will vote for in the fall--but will not reveal it to the public. Rice is still not considering a role as Vice President, but is planning to write a book about America's foreign policy at the end of Bush's term.

New York Governor David Paterson Condemns The New Yorker

New York Governor David Paterson condemned The New Yorker's cover of Barack and Michelle Obama. Speaking Thursday at the NAACP's national convention, Patterson, who is the first black governor of New York, said it was "one of the most malignant, vicious covers of a magazine I have ever seen. It depicted them as angry, hateful, violent and unpatriotic." Adding in his speech, “No matter how prosperous we are, no matter how well heeled we may be, no matter how ambitious and successful we have been, we still can be cast under the same net regardless of our circumstances.” PHOTO: AP

ObamaNation: Is The New Yorker‘s Cover Satire Or Racist?

The July 21st cover of The New Yorker depicts a cartoon of Barack Obama dressed in Muslim garb giving a fist-bump to his wife, Michelle, who is dressed as a Black Pantheresque renegade complete with an afro and an automatic strapped to her back. They are standing in the middle of the oval office where a photo of Osama Bin Laden hangs over the fireplace in which the American flag is burning. The New Yorker explains in a news release about the issue: “On the cover of the July 21, 2008, issue of The New Yorker, in ‘The Politics of Fear,’ artist Barry Blitt satirizes the use of scare tactics and misinformation in the presidential election to derail Barack Obama’s campaign.” That being said we still have to ask, has the Conde Nast publication--known for its satirical cartoons addressing political and social issues--gone too far in its attempt to make fun of the right-wing's hyper-inflated stereotypes of the presidential hopeful and his wife or is it feeding the political fires of racism and ignorance? Obama's response to the cover: “I have no response to that."

ObamaNation: Bernie Mac Jokes of ‘Hos’ at Obama Fundraiser

Bernie Mac entertained a crowd at a $2,300-a-head fundraiser for Obama by joking about "hos." Mac also advised the presidential hopeful to watch 2003's Head of State, which he co-starred in with Chris Rock, for tips on avoiding rumors like, "You was at the club with Lil' Kim, and you and Kanye West got into a fist fight." Obama initially expressed disapproval of the comedian's routine, chiding, "We can’t afford to be divided by region or by class and we can’t afford to be divided by gender, which by the way, that means, Bernie, you’ve got to clean up your act next time. This is a family affair", but then says, "By the way I'm just messing with you man." Obama's spokesperson Jen Psaki formally denounced the comedy routine: "Senator Obama told Bernie Mac that he does not condone these statements and that what he said was inappropriate." ObamaNation: Barack’s Little Girls

Granting their first interview as a family, the Obamas speak to Access Hollywood’s Maria Menounos in a feature shown on the Today Show. And the exclusive interview was all about the girls. Sasha, 7, the adorable little ham, says while on the campaign trail all her dad does is “blah blah blah blah.” “My dad doesn’t like sweets,” Sasha says of Barack, who Michelle calls “boring” when it comes to his sweet tooth. “He likes like minty gum, he doesn’t like like bubble gum,” the littlest Obama girl adds. Malia, 10, the more reserve daughter, even gives her dad campaign advice, explaining how she told him he shouldn’t “shake kids’ hands,” and instead “you know you just wave or say hi!” When the campaign is done, the girls are looking forward to getting a dog! ObamaNation: Turbulence In The Sky

Barack Obama’s plane experienced "control ability issue[s}" and made an unscheduled landing in St. Louis, Missouri yesterday. The presidential hopeful was on his way to Charlotte, N.C. for a campaign speech to about 200 people. Midwest Airlines says in a statement that "there was never an issue as to the safety of the flight, as a precautionary measure, we decided to divert the plane." Is anyone else reminded of politician Ron Brown? Let's just say we're we holding our breath until election time. PHOTO: AP
