SNEAK PEEK: Zoe Saldana as Uhura in J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek

For all you Trekkies out there, Entertainment Weekly dedicates an entire cover story to filmmaker J.J. Abrams' super-secret Star Trek film. "We weren't making a movie for fans of Star Trek," Abrams told EW. "We were making a movie for fans of movies." The film (due out next spring) stars Chris Pine as James T. Kirk, Heroes star Zachary Quinto as Spock, Simon Pegg as Scotty, Harold & Kumar's John Cho as Sulu, Anton Yelchin as Chekov, Karl Urban as McCoy, and one of Blindie's favorite actresses Zoe Saldana as Uhura. Of her role, Saldana said, "It’s great to see an exotic face in sci-fi. Little girls who look like me, or who are Arab, Filipina, whatever, are going to go, ‘Oh, my God, we can be in space, too!’"

One of Blindie's favorite actresses Maggie Gyllenhaal looked radiant during Fashion Week in Los Angeles--and it wasn't because of her new hair cut. The acclaimed actress hosted SoyJoy's Fashionably Natural, a groundbreaking runway show that showcased designers who work exclusively with all-natural fabrics. The socially-conscious icon, who follows in the footsteps of other eco-fashion figures (Stella McCartney, Natalie Portman), told Entertainment Tonight that before teaming up with SoyJoy on the show, "I sort of thought of eco-friendly clothing as misshapen hemp sweaters from 1992." But Gyllenhaal insists that just because you wear all-natural fabrics, "You still have to vote and you still have to be a responsible citizen!"

Robin Thicke on Wife Paula Patton: ‘She Gets One Script Out of Every 10 That a White Girl Would Get’

R&B singer Robin Thicke doesn't bite his tongue on race in music and movies in an interview with the Miami Herald. In regards to his wife, actress Paula Patton's career, Thicke says, "She being African-American gets one script out of every 10 that a white girl would get because...they're just not looking for a black actress in this role." While he says it's not that way for every role, he does explain that filmmakers say, "'We want a white girl. We're sure of that.' So she has to deal with that a lot. And when you live with somebody you see that world in a different way than I would have ever seen." But being a white boy with soul in the R&B world, Thicke, who released his new album Something Else last week, knows how it feels to stick "out like a sore thumb." "I do find that doors are closed because the color of my skin, but doors are also open because of the color of my skin," he explains. "And doors are closed on a lot of other people, and I'm definitely not the victim in this society, that's for sure." As for the future of race in America, the gorgeous singer says, "I think with Barack Obama running for president we're learning very quickly that race is still at the forefront of people's minds. Nowadays, just because they changed the laws doesn't mean they changed the whispers. Nowadays, racism is in the whispering and it's in the connotations."

The Samuel L. Jackson-Kerry Washington thriller Lakeview Terrace opened at No. 1 at the box office, pulling in an estimated $15.6 million in its opening weekend. In the controversial film, Jackson plays a veteran LAPD police officer who doesn't care for his new neighbors, a married couple played by the beautiful Washington and the equally stunning Patrick Wilson. Jackson's character doesn't like them because they are an interracial couple. The film, which refers to the neighborhood where Rodney King was beaten by police in 1991, was produced by Will Smith.
