Two of Style.com’s 20 Reasons to Love Fashion in 2008 Include Pretty Black Girls

Style.com released their annual fashion list, "2008: The Year in Style," where they counted down the 20 reasons to celebrate fashion. At No. 1 was our incoming First Lady Michelle Obama "because symbols mean something," especially in risk-taking attire. "We chose to see Mrs. O's fashion risk-taking as a small but potent sign that the next four (eight?) years won't be politics—or pantsuits—as usual," the site writes. "And if nothing else, Obama—who sparked a run on yellow J.Crew pencil skirts and cardigans after an appearance on The Tonight Show—could be a one-woman bailout package for one of the nation's key consumer sectors." At No. 5 is "runways and magazines finally got (a little) more diverse," with the rising of newly minted It girls Jourdan Dunn and Chanel Iman, and their appearances in Vogue Italia's "A Black Issue" in July. I was horrified."
