The budding friendship of Katy Perry and domestic violence victim Rihanna caught Blindie’s eye yesterday as the two singers were photographed together on a boat in Rihanna’s native Barbados.
Rumored to be inseparable since her alleged beating from ex Chris Brown, Perry seems like just the kind of empowered chick Rihanna needs in her life. Having listened to the “I Kissed a Girl” singer’s album on loop since its debut, Blindie feels Perry’s message of empowerment and self-worth will keep RiRi away from Brown!
“It’s nice to have good girlfriends,” Perry told MTV. “I pride myself on having cool chicks in my life, and [Rihanna’s] a cool chick…I love [Rihanna’s] style … She’s one of those unaffected people.”
Despite Chris Brown‘s arrest last month and his recent court appearance on domestic violence charges, the singer is still in the running to receive a Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Award and Twittermoms, a network of “influential moms,” are trying to get the singer removed from the ballot with an online petition.
Brown and his publicity camp have received criticism for actively pursuing the award by sending a message through his official Myspace page asking fans to vote for the superstar in the Favorite Male Singer and Favorite Song categories.
“Hey fans,” the message reads. “Vote for Chris on the Kids Choice Awards 2009 link provided below … Thank you for your support.”
Aparently someone is oblivious to the severity of his criminal charges, the possible jailtime, and even the mere implications of beating a woman, allegedly Rihanna, and leaving her on the side of the road.
“Love doesn’t hurt,” Oprah said on her show Friday, announcing she will discuss domestic violence in an upcoming show. “I want to do a show about it, dedicated to all the Rihannas of the world.”
Rihanna’s reconciliation with Brown after her February 8th beating from her superstar boyfriend (who was charged with two felonies last week) surprised her family and fans alike, sparking a public debate about whether he’ll do it again
Speaking directly into the camera, Oprah said, “If a man hits you once, he will hit you again. He will hit you again.”
Brown offered an apology and denied posting any updates on Facebook -referring to allegations in the press that he had changeed his relationship status to ‘single’ and written ‘You’ll begin to see her true colours. Believe it!’
In a statement issued on Sunday Brown says:
“Words cannot begin to express how sorry and saddened I am over what transpired. I am seeking the counseling of my pastor, my mother and other loved ones and I am committed, with God’s help, to emerging a better person.
“Much of what has been speculated or reported on blogs and/or reported in the media is wrong.
“While I would like to be able to talk about this more, until the legal issues are resolved, this is all I can say except that I have not written any messages or made any posts to Facebook, on blogs or any place else.
“Those posts or writings under my name are frauds.”
In late 2007 Chris Brown appeared on the Tyra Banks Show and in a foreshadowing of his recent arrest for domestic felony charges revealed he had witnessed domestic violence as a child.
“Some people, their families go through domestic violence and stuff like that. I don’t want to mention the person’s name but there was somebody who hurt my mom. Me having to deal with that from the age of seven all the way through to 13, me seeing that and being visually abused by it – it affected me,” Brown said.
He also claimed to have been so affected by his mother’s abuse that he wanted to make sure he didn’t “put a woman through the same thing that person put my mom through.”
Brown tried to explain the reason his mother stayed in the situation saying, “I guess when a woman’s in love, she don’t look at it right.”
