With the recent news about Chris Brown and Rihanna‘s domestic abuse drama, Kanye West spoke out in support of his former tour mate.
Not only did he call Rihanna “my baby sis,” but the Grammy-winning rapper and producer went as far as calling her “the most important artist in music.”
And while we’re on West’s loose flattery, Blindie compiled a list of his prior hyperbole relating to his musical peers:
Kanye West on Beyoncé in December 2008: “Nobody really wants to recognize that Beyoncé is a f***ing living legend and that she is just as great, if not greater, than the artists that we had in the past…that she’s probably greater than Tina Turner.”
Kanye West on Justin Timberlake in August 2007: “My biggest inspiration and biggest competition is Justin Timberlake. He’s the only other person that gets an across-the-board response and respect level — black radio, white radio…We push each other. I look at me and Justin like Prince and Michael Jackson in their day.”
Kanye West on frenemy 50 Cent in January 2009: “50 is one of those rappers that I said was the end all be all of what rap what supposed to be. Like a true iconic rapper.”
Kanye West on Rihanna in February 2009: “Rihanna is so important to our culture, to pop music. I feel like she is the most important artist in music and has the most potential. Her taste level and her age … she has the potential to be the greatest artist of all time.”
Kanye West on Kanye West in November 2008: “I want to be Elvis,” he said during an acceptance speech at the American Music Awards. But days later he clarified, “I really should have thought that out more because that statement was actually really incorrect. Actually, the true statement was ‘I want to be better than Elvis.’”

In late 2007 Chris Brown appeared on the Tyra Banks Show and in a foreshadowing of his recent arrest for domestic felony charges revealed he had witnessed domestic violence as a child.
“Some people, their families go through domestic violence and stuff like that. I don’t want to mention the person’s name but there was somebody who hurt my mom. Me having to deal with that from the age of seven all the way through to 13, me seeing that and being visually abused by it – it affected me,” Brown said.
He also claimed to have been so affected by his mother’s abuse that he wanted to make sure he didn’t “put a woman through the same thing that person put my mom through.”
Brown tried to explain the reason his mother stayed in the situation saying, “I guess when a woman’s in love, she don’t look at it right.”

As previously reported, Chris Brown and Rihanna canceled their appearances at this year’s Grammy Awards after being involved in a domestic violence battle with one another.
While both stars have yet to go public with their legal drama, photos have surfaced on the web, showing the two together in Brown’s rented Lamborghini minutes before the incident was reported to LAPD.
But a source close to the couple has spoken out, identifying Rihanna as the victim (Brown surrendered to LAPD on Sunday and was released on $50K bail).
“Chris knocked her around,” the source tells People. “Black eye, blood, bruises. She had to be treated by a doctor.”
While Rihanna is cooperating with police in their investigation, the source says Rihanna is willing to forgive Brown (who is described as “low-key, easy-going and mild-mannered” by a former teacher).
“I would be so sad if she went back to him,” the source adds.

Singers Chris Brown, Rihanna and Usher all cancelled their performances at the Grammy award show causing event producers to scramble for replacement acts.
On Saturday Usher cancelled his appearances at the pre-Grammy event honoring Clive Davis and the Grammy award show because of a “serious” family emergency. It was then discovered that his wife Tameka Foster had suffered injuries sustained from plastic surgery complications in Brazil.
On Sunday both Chris Brown and Rihanna cancelled their performances at the Grammy award show. Brown was arrested the same day under alleged domestic felony charges for battery to a female. According to a police statement, Brown and his female companion “became involved in an argument” around 12:30am on Sunday morning. After stopping his car, Brown and the woman got out and the argument escalated. The woman suffered visible injuries and identified Brown as her attacker.”
While the female’s identity was not confirmed, it is widely believed to be Brown’s girlfriend Rihanna. Brown was released on $50,000 bail on Sunday evening.

With Chris Brown currently on tour in the UK and Rihanna set to continue her “Good Girl Gone Bad” world tour in Malaysia next month, the “Umbrella” singer is laying down the law to her reported fiance and his crew.
“She has banned female members of his entourage from being alone with him in his room and said no girls can be there past midnight,” reports a London newspaper. The 20-year-old singer also insists that her 19-year-old love doesn’t dance with any girls in clubs—and she doesn’t want to see any photos of him with female fans in her absence.
Rihanna also reportedly changed her tour schedule so she could be on the set of his new music video, “Freeze” with rapper T-Pain, because she knew there would be plenty of girls on-set.

With our freshman year on the web coming to a close, Blindie’s compiled a list of our favorite things of 2008:
Favorite Model: It’s a TIE! Jourdan Dunn & Chanel Iman have continued to impress us this year with their growing catwalk & cover careers!
Best Red Carpet Moment: Rihanna at the BET Awards. We know, gross. BUT one highlight of the ghetto fab awards ceremony was Rihanna showing up in the ruffled yellow sundress by Giambattista Valli..FAB!
Best Grown Hunk: Jason Momoa. Granted his face was tragically slashed, but he’s having his second baby with Lisa Bonet and we’re pretty sure the scar will just make him look more ruggedly gorgeous!
Best Growing Hunk: Taylor Lautner. The Twilight star has fans petitioning to get him cast in the sequel New Moon. We’re too excited to see this 16-year-old cutie mature into manhood!
Favorite Starlet: Rosario Dawson. With two hit flicks (Eagle Eye & Seven Pounds) and a massive get-out-the-vote effort, the New York bred beauty stunned us with her acting chops and her love of Twilight!
Best Sisters: Sasha & Malia Obama. These girls are too cute and we’re lucky enough to watch them blossom into young women in the White House!
Best Couple: Barack & Michelle Obama. The new faces of America have busted the glass ceiling and will continue to show the world the beauty of black love.
Favorite Reality Show: The Real Housewives of Atlanta. Talk about drama! These five Georgia peaches reminded us what reality TV was supposed be: real, bitchy and explosive!
Best Break Out Star: Cast of Twilight. Not since JTT have we gone beserk over teen hotness (and we are grown women!)…this cast (and we’re hoping little Taylor too) will be back to give us more blood in New Moon.
Favorite Gossip Girl & Guy: Leighton Meester and Ed Westwick: They’re the ONLY reason to watch GG. The best TV chemistry we’ve seen since Mer-Der circa Season 1 of Grey’s (when it was good)!
Best Band: TV on the Radio. With the release of their latest album, Dear Science, TOTR happily reminded us of some our favorite songs of the 80s!
Best Single: “Paper Planes” by M.I.A. It was a stoner flick that made it ubiquitous, but this infectious hit made us skip on the streets!
Best New Artist: Leona Lewis. This record-breaking Brit helped us through some bad breakups in 2008, with “Bleeding Love” and “Better in Time”!
Most Addictive Choreography: “Single Ladies” by Beyonce. From fat gay men to skinny gay men to a little tot named Arianna in a onesie, too many regular people uploaded videos of their best renditions of this addictive hit.

The 2008 MTV Video Music Awards was dominated this year by the wit of British bad boy comedian Russell Brand, who hosted the show with a sharp tongue!
Here are Blindie’s Top Five moments from Sunday’s VMAs:
1. Britney’s Back Bitches!!! Opening the show, a more aware, alive and luminous Britney Spears gets some help at relaxing for the show from Superbad star Jonah Hill, who uses the opportunity to get some nookie from the recovering pop princess. Besides winning her first VMAs, MTV totally underused Brit Brit!
2. Host Russell Brand held no punches on his attack of the Republican party, urging the people of America to “Please elect Barack Obama,” and calling all those opposed to Obama “racists!” Of Republican VP pick, Brand says: “Sarah Palin is a VILF–A Vice-President I would like to…fondle.” He also calls President Bush “a retarded cowboy fella.”
3. Jamie Foxx says of T.I.’s attendance at the show: “I see you T.I.–Got that bail money?…Don’t shoot me.” He also points out Rihanna’s hot Grace Jones-esque performance entrance and outfit. Speaking of Rihanna: Hey Aguilera! Rihanna called and she wants you to stop biting her look!
4. Making fun of Joe Jackson, Brand says, “I like the old system of controlling a boy band–like Joe Jackson–with one leather belt.” He drew laughs from Busta Rhymes.
5. Brand versus Pops Virgins: After making numerous jokes on the Jonas Brothers’ promise rings (“I’d take it a little more seriously if they wore it on their genitals”), Jordin Sparks stands up for all virgins of America, saying nothing is wrong with not wanting to be a slut! Ouch! This prompts Brand to apologize: “Sorry cause I said them things about promise rings…I don’t want to piss off any teenage fans…..I don’t want to piss on any either!“
