Former Saturday Night Live star Maya Rudolph is finally getting her first starring role in a major movie in the dramedy Away We Go (opening Friday).
Starring opposite The Office hottie John Krasinski, Rudolph (who is expecting her second kid with director Paul Thomas Anderson) plays Verona, a mom-to-be traveling across country to find the perfect place to raise her baby.
“I heard that it was written with me in mind, but I didn’t know Dave and Vendela, so I couldn’t ask them,” she says of the film written by authors Dave Eggers and Vendela Vida and directed by Oscar winner Sam Mendes (he’s married to Oscar-winning actress Kate Winslet).
“It was pretty thrilling to see that these two incredible writers wrote this beautiful thing with you in mind,” she added.
We don’t know how we missed this, but apparently Ga Ga girl Rashida Jones has a new man–and he is not on The Office (ahem, John Krasinski!).
The Parks and Recreation star was recently spotted out and about with President Barack Obama‘s Director of Speechwriting, 27-year-old Jon Favreau. Here’s the scoop on their D.C. affair:
“Rashida and Jon were hanging out in an exclusive bar in the Georgetown area,” says a blogger for Best Week Ever. “Our tipster reports that the two were attached at the hip all evening, until they starting making out with each other at the bar. Eventually, they left with one another.”
Former 90210 2.0 guest star Jessica Lucas is dropping into the CW’s reboot of Melrose Place with some lovely eye candy on her arm: Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants stud Michael Rady!
The gorgeous pair play hot couple Jonah Miller, an aspiring filmmaker, and Riley Richmond, a rich girl who works as an inner-city elementary teacher.
The show also stars Ashlee Simpson-Wentz, David Cassidy spawn Katie Cassidy, and alums Laura Leighton and Thomas Calabro. See the clip below for previews of the series (fast forward to 1:50 for Jessica and Michael’s scene).
L’Oreal has named Indian actress (and lovely Ga Ga Girl) Freida Pinto the newest face of L’Oreal cosmetics.
“I am very moved to be joining the great L’Oreal Paris family and all these personalities: a family I am now proud to be a part of,” the Slumdog Millionaire beauty said in a statement.
Also joining the roster (which includes Beyonce, Penelope Cruz and Eva Longoria Parker) is Lost star Evangeline Lilly, who says, “It is a source of great pride for me to represent a brand whose ambition is to respond to every person’s aspirations to beauty and contribute to the fulfillment and well-being of everyone.”
Lily (Kelly Rutherford) proves the old adage “like mother, like daughter” holds true as she finds herself becoming just as controlling and manipulating as Cece just to avoid scandal and protect her family name while Serena (Blake Lively) and Blair (Leighton Meester) learn GFs come before BFs. And hello, flashback city as creator Josh Schwartz unveils the Gossip Girl spin-off
Here are Blindie’s Top 10 moments from Gossip Girl‘s “Valley Girl” episode:
The zingers were flying all night as Serena zaps her mom with, “I would rather give my kids up for adoption than end up like you. Oh wait, you did that.” And Lily sums up Cece saying, “my mother doesn’t need forgiveness, she needs electro-schock therapy.”
We’re so over the Dove Go Fresh commercials! Why is the only non-white girl featured in the series a broke filmmaker from Brooklyn? What, they couldn’t find any privileged Upper East Side ethnic girls?
We’re loving Grandma Cece’s fondness for gin! “May I have a gin and tonic, no tonic,” she orders in an 80s flashback. And now her daughter Lily accuses her of “rushing back to that bottle of gin she has hidden under the sink.”
How fitting for 80s dreamboat Andrew McCarthy to play Lily’s dad Rick. But wait, wasn’t McCarthy a preppy teenager wooing Jenny in Pretty in Pink in the mid-eigthies, not a big time music exec shirking his parental duties.
We must have the music from the Gossip Girl flashback soundtrack: “Mirror in the Bathroom,” by English Beat; “Dancing with myself” by Billy Idol; “I Melt With You” by Modern English; “Blue Monday” by New Order; “Safety Dance” by Men Without Hats.
No Doubt posing as a punk band and Gwen Stefani looking so young and hot, like she doesn’t have two kids and a hubby at home.
Loving how the lure of a tiara convinces Blair that prom queens aren’t just for “suburban schools and the lame teen comedies that are set at them.” And Mother-Chucker Bass making sure that Blair gets the crown and all her scrapbook prom dreams come true -right down to the dress!
Now that Blair has achieved her ultimate high school dream of going to prom with Nate Archibald (Chace Crawford), she realizes she’s over him.
When is Lily’s sister going to resurface in the present day? She’d probably bring more drama than Georgina!
Did the final flashback scene on the L.A. bus remind anyone else of Pat Benator’s “Love is a Battlefield”
The Gossip Girl gang is all here, Blair, Chuck, Nate, Serena even Georgina, and they’re scheming and plotting together like true Upper East Side friends. But can born-again Georgina take the wheel back from Jesus and steer everyone out of a financial mess?!
Here are Blindie’s TOP 10 moments from Gossip Girl‘s “Wrath of Con” episode:
Poppy Lifton (Tamara Feldman) is using Gabriel (Armie Hammer) to run a Ponzi scheme on Serena’s friends and even Rufus Humphrey (Matthew Settle) gets caught up in it. Because Ponzi schemes aren’t just for Jewish people anymore.
We love how Lily Bass (Kelly Rutherford) would rather pay everyone off and prevent scandal and a ruined social image rather than go after the real crooks.
Rufus Humphrey plans to surprise Lily with dinner and pop the question so he wheels the food to her ritzy Manhattan apartment in a rickety wagon! Hasn’t he ever heard of delivery?! Take that old lady wagon back to Brooklyn!
Last season everyone wanted Serena (Blake Lively), now Blair (Leighton Meester) is in high demand as Nate (Chace Crawford) and Chuck (Ed Westwick) fight for her attention.
Can Dan Humphrey’s (Penn Bagdley) big mouth ruin anymore plots?!
Blair asks Chuck to declare his love for her or let her go. Of course Chuck does not let his guard down and he lets Blair go, then admits to Serena that it’s because he loves her and can’t make her happy.
Georgina’s cell phone ring is a “praise the Lord” song.
The big plan to bust Poppy goes south as Serena is hauled away by the cops and Poppy trots off with Georgina’s bible money.
We lost count of the Jesus mentions after the first half hour, but here are tour faves: “I gave up my old ways when I let Jesus take the wheel,” Georgina tells Blair; “I will never forgive you for what you did and neither will Jesus,” Blair screams at Georgina; “You can tell Jesus that the bitch is back,” as Georgina finishes the job that Chuck and Blair couldn’t and goes after Poppy.
How good and kind of cheesy was the teaser for the next episode featuring flashbacks of Lily and Rufus in their teen years and a performance by No Doubt! Yes, it’s a pilot for that Gossip Girlspin-off about Lily’s wild years.
