Disney Pairs First Black Princess Taina With Almost-White Prince Naveen

prince_naveen_princess_taina Disney unveiled Prince Naveen, the dashing young who will try to win the hand of their first black princess Taina in the upcoming film The Princess and The Frog, and critics are in an uproar over his questionable ethnicity. With a name like Naveen and a complexion that rivals Aladdin, many are wondering why Disney chose to take an ambiguously ethnic route instead of portraying a Prince of darker brown tones more in line with Taina. Princess Taina might be groundbreaking for Disney, and only after they cleaned up some of the racial stereotypes, but Prince Naveen is disappointing as he perpetuates the Disney tradition of white to near-white royal men.

Here's our stab at listing the Top 5 interracial onscreen couplings that not only entertained us, but sent us a message: thandie-newton-flirting-noah-taylor 1. Flirting: Shy Danny Embling (Noah Taylor) falls for Thandiwe Adjewa (Thandie Newton) and their romance blossoms over the course of the school year in this 1991 cult classic. Danny could've easily fell for Naomi Watts and Nicole Kidman in the flick, but he opted for the Kenyan spark plug! whitney-houston-bodyguard-kevin-costner 2. The Bodyguard: The 1992 hit film starred Whitney Houston as a demanding diva that reluctantly hires Kevin Costner to help protect her from a psychotic stalker who wants her dead. Corina, Corina: The 1994 comedy with heart followed housekeeper Corina Washington (Whoopi Goldberg) as she helps young Molly cope with the death of her mother. Guess Who: The 2005 take on the 1967 classic featured Zoe Saldana bringing her white fiance (played by Ashton Kutcher) home to her skeptical black father (played by the late Bernie Mac). GIMME FIVE: Tyra Banks’ Big Political Guests (Who Says Jay Leno Gets All the Scoop!)

tyra-banks-michelle-obama-photo Sure, Jay Leno became the first Late Night host to get a sitting president to visit his show last night, but Tyra Banks is the first Day Time host to get campaigning candidates to do some pretty idiotic things on The Tyra Show. So in tribute to Tyra's political side, Blindie pays homage to Miss Banks' Top 5 political guests: tyra-barack-obama-tyra-show 1. Sen. Barack Obama: In October 2007, the presidential hopeful was asked by Tyra to gaze into her crystal ball and tell her what he sees. "I see the White House," he replied, before revealing that his girls Malia & Sasha don't approve of the Hilton sisters! tyra-hillary-clinton-tyra-show-tissue 2. Sen. Hillary Clinton: In January 2008, Tyra asked the New York senator to answer questions printed on tissues (in reference to her crying on the campaign trail). One question was about Bill's affair with Monica. “I never doubted Bill’s love for me ever," she told Tyra, "and I never doubted my faith and my commitment to our daughter and our extended family.” tyra-john-edwards-wendys 3. John Edwards: In January 2008, the now-philanderous Edwards explained to Tyra how he and his wife Elizabeth eat at Wendy's every year on their anniversary--and Tyra made sure he shared Wendy’s with her on her show. tyra-mike-huckabee-tyra-show-guitar 4. Mike Huckabee: In February 2008, the former Arkansas governor gave Tyra bass guitar lessons. "I'm so pumped about being here." But of course Tyra had to make it about her: "I took guitar before ... well for two months but I remember nothin. My fingers used to hurt really bad when I played guitar. I stopped because of it." tyra-banks-inauguration-tyra-show 5. Inauguration Obama Cutouts: In January 2009, Tyra couldn't get her former guest on the show--now that he was running the country and all--so she settled for the next best thing: cardboard cutouts of the first family during President Barack Obama's Inauguration!
