Star Trek‘s Zoe Saldana Never Watched the Original Series But Says She’s a Trekkie Now

Star Trek beauty Zoe Saldana may be the lone female on J.J. Abram’s Enterprise, but she admits to not having watched the original series. Sorry Trekkies!

“I never saw that,” Saldana, who plays Uhura, said in a recent interview with BlackFilm.com. “I was not a fan until now and I have so much admiration for what they did, and how much the series continues to grow after 45 years and I had the honor of meeting Nichelle Nichols.”

Of her meeting with Nichols, Saldana reveals that Nichols told her she named Uhura herself.

“I was able to sit down with her and she told me the whole story of how Uhura came to be and where they were going with her character,” Saldana said. “But it all fell into place the moment she walked into the door and auditioned for the part.”

As for the Uhura’s famous costume, Saldana said, “The moment everything came together from the hair, the costume, being on the set, and then you start to feel, ‘Okay, this is real. This is amazing and fun’.”

it’s TREKKERS. not TREKKIES. Jesus, can’t people get it right by now? TREKKERS, are taking the journey with the characters on the show or movies or books. TREKKIES is entirely the wrong name for true Star Trek fans. Look it up. Oh, and…. FIRST!
