Estelle Nabs Five Mobo Award Nominations & Speaks Out on Adele & Duffy

Every time Estelle's Kanye West-cameod single "American Boy" circulates on our iPod, we can't help but to get amped. So when we heard the British songstress nabbed five Mobo (Music of Black Origin) Award nominations, we were elated. The 28-year-old singer earned more nods, including Best UK Female, Album, Song, R&B/Soul and Video, than fresh-faced stunner Leona Lewis, who recently became the first British woman to reach No. 1 in the US singles charts for more than 20 years for her hit, "Bleeding Love." More shocking than going face-to-face with hitmaker Lewis, Estelle is reportedly pissed to be going up against white British songstresses Adele & Duffy (whose "Warwick Avenue" we are completely haunted by and ga ga over!). "It's hilarious," Estelle told the London Times. "I'm not mad at 'em - but I'm just wondering, how the hell is there not a single black person in the press singing soul? Adele ain't soul. She sounds like she heard some Aretha records once and she's got a deeper voice - that don't mean she's soul." The 13th annual awards will be held in London on October 15.

ObamaNation: Barack Obama Cancels SNL Appearance Due to Ike!

Blindie is currently upset with the recent cancellation of Senator Barack Obama's appearance on Saturday Night Live due to Hurricane Ike. With his now-cancelled SNL moment (which is being hosted by Olympian Michael Phelps), we were hoping the Democratic presidential candidate would take some headlines back from media-frenzied Sarah Palin. But his spokeswoman explained, "In light of the unfolding crisis in Texas, Senator Obama has decided it is no longer appropriate to appear on Saturday Night Live tomorrow evening."

Spike Lee: Wesley Snipes Would ‘Kill’ In James Brown Biopic

Spike Lee has plans to bring the life story of The Godfather of Soul to the big screen and thinks Wesley Snipes is the right man to fill those sliding shoes. Lee told King magazine that Snipes is "a phenomenal actor...if my James Brown picture ever gets made, he’ll be playing James, and he’d kill in that, without a doubt. He still has chops.” The biopic is not listed on IMDB but Lee had reportedly been working on the production with James Brown before the singer's passing in 2006. Even though Lee has worked so well with Snipes in the past with Mo' Better Blues (1990) and Jungle Fever (1991), Blindie would rather see Eddie Murphy play James Brown -remember his impersonation on Delirious in 1983?

Ga Ga: Joey McIntyre in NKOTB’s ‘Single’ Music Video Feat. Ne-Yo

Every girl has her favorite--and in the new New Kids on the Block, Joey McIntyre is definitely it. While Jordan Knight comes in in a STRONG second, Joey is heating it up in the band's catchy new single with Ne-Yo, "Single." Outfitted in impeccably fitted suits, the blond cutie is hard to resist. We admit that when we saw NKOTB debuting "Single" on the Today show last week, we were skeptical. But once the video surfaced, we were playing it on loop, like a school girl screaming over J.T. in 'N Sync. Blindie's ga ga over this sure-to-be hit!

Color on the Cover: Chanel Iman Appears on Time Magazine’s Style & Design Issue

Blindie's assuming that this Italian Vogue thing is really catching on, as model Chanel Iman is featured on Time Magazine's Style & Design Issue. In the issue, the magazine explores the recent trend of using black models, but argues that the industry "has often cycled through ethnicities," noting its use of black models in the 70s, Brazilians in the 90s, and Russians & East Europeans most recently. "White faces, however, have always been in vogue—not surprising, given that most of the decision makers in the industry are white," the magazine observes. Here's to Chanel Iman's small, yet necessary victories!

Where In The World Is Michael Jackson?: At His Childhood Home in Gary, Indiana

Michael Jackson and his three children, Paris, Prince, and Prince Michael II, stopped over in The Windy City before heading to his hometown of Gary, Indiana and touring his childhood neighborhood, according to the Chicago Sun-Times. Earlier this summer the town's mayor Rudy Clay presented Jackson's papa Joe with a key to the city and unveiled a new street sign in honor of the famous clan. He even revealed proposed plans for a Jackson Museum and Cultural Center. Blindie hopes that when the time comes MJ won't skip out on the induction of his family's museum the way he skipped out on the family reunion on September 4th at the BMI Urban Awards.
